Francis Poulenc
1899-1963

A true Parisian born in Paris. Although he did not receive a professional musical education at a music school, he studied composition and later became known as the “French Six”.
He had a wide range of friendships, including not only the members of the “French Six”, but also E. Satie and M. Falla, whom he met through his piano teacher.
He also frequented rental bookstores where circle activities such as recitations and book clubs were held, deepening his interest in literature and interacting with people in the literary world.
Against the backdrop of this social nature and the fact that there was still a culture of patrons supporting the arts in France, Poulenc, who made his debut as a young composer, was actively supported by the aristocracy. I really feel like “it’s the French art world…“ (prejudice?).It was an era when “modern music” was already on the rise and the sense of harmony and tonality had begun to collapse, but Poulenc himself continued to write music with a sense of tonality throughout his life.Just as he composed many songs, I think that Poulenc’s piano music also has a strong singing heart. The sound is clear but not straightforward. Its melodious and sophisticated music continues to capture people’s hearts even today.

【Q.What is your favorite piece?】
mezzopiano)《Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano FP.43》。It’s a very fun piece!I love this piece best, so I want to play myself…but it bothers me that I don’t have anyone nearby who can play the oboe and bassoon.Except for the piano, let’s program the sounds and play a trio?haha In solo piano works…piano suite〈Napoli FP.40〉and〈Melancholy FP.105〉,I like.Poulenc himself doesn’t seem to like 〈Napoli〉.I like piano duo〈Piano Sonata for 4 hands FP.8〉too.Although it was composed at the young age of 18, it is well organized and has a personality.I like the harsh start~.
suketto)〈Melancholy FP.105〉 is the only choice…!

Napoli FP.40
